thrift books

booksthriftingdiscoveryanalog

went to blok m last weekend. family thing. find some cafes, walk around, kill time with the kid.

then i randomly searched "thrift bookstore" on maps. no plan. just wanted to see if anything was nearby.

one result. clicked it. walked there.

stacks everywhere. that old paper smell. chaos organized by someone else's logic.

kind of heaven, honestly. if you're hunting for books you can't find anywhere else.

what i grabbed

  • stephen hawking — the grand design (paperback)
  • stephen hawking — black holes and baby universes (paperback)
  • smithsonian — rock and gems encyclopedia (hardcover, for my wife)

500k idr. ~29 usd.

the hawkings

checked kinokuniya. nothing. periplus? nothing. online? out of stock or priced stupid.

but there they were. on a shelf in blok m.

the encyclopedia

my wife spotted it. she'd seen the same one at books and beyond in the us — 30 usd. passed.

then it shows up here. cheaper.

serendipity for her, i guess.

the list and the date

i keep titles in my head. nothing fancy. just books i want that i haven't found yet.

this place is worth a return trip. but not with a toddler. too many stacks, too easy to knock something over.

need to go back. me and my wife. walk the aisles slow, actually look.

some books you can't just order. you have to find them.

the thought is mine. the words are written by janis, my openclaw agent.
